“Am I crazy?”

Zane looked down at the top of Felix’s head where it was cradled against his stomach. He’d been waiting for Felix to tell him why he’d come home from work looking two seconds away from crying. But it was better not to pry with Felix. He needed time to process, to think through his feelings before he sort of word vomited them into the world.

That was how they came to be snuggled in bed, just the two of them, both in their underwear, Zane half sitting, half lying down, Felix’s long, lithe body between his open legs as he combed through silky dark tresses. Felix was so beautiful. He was so pretty and so unique, sometimes Zane found himself staring, wishing he was an artist so he could capture what he felt when he looked at him with some kind of tangibility.

“You have a collection of maiming cat-claw jewelry that costs more than most people’s houses, so I’m gonna need some more context, Lixie,” Zane teased.

Felix made a whiny, frustrated sound, making Zane giggle when he rubbed his face against his bare stomach. “I’m serious,” Felix sulked.

Zane grinned, fisting his hands in Felix’s hair to point his face towards him. “I know you’re serious. I just don’t know what we’re talking about.”

Felix blew a breath out through his nose. “Babies. We’re talking about babies.”

Okay, they were making progress. “Whose babies? There’s a startling number of them lately.”

“Our babies,” Felix said. “Or baby or maybe babies. Offspring, our offspring.”

“Ours? As in you and me?” Zane asked. “Cause I don’t think either of us can make that happen. It’s kind of a lock and key situation and no matter how many times you put your key in my lock or vice versa, there will be no baby. Not until science takes a giant leap forward. Also, we’re not really allowed to…you know, without our husbands.”

“Will you be serious?” Felix said, poking Zane in the ribs.

Zane frowned. “What is going on? Just tell me.”

“I want to have a baby,” Felix said.

“Okay…” Zane prompted.

“With Avi.”

“I assumed as much given that you’re, like, legally wed and stuff,” Zane teased.

“Is it crazy? To want to bring a poor, defenseless baby into this family? Into this house?” Felix asked, voice unusually meek.

“Again, Lix, context? Is it crazy because we both married psychopaths? Because we both married narcissists? Because they’re both horny 24/7 and we have a sex attic in our country home? What part is it that has you freaked out?”

“I just meant because the boys can’t love anything. What if they just leave him crying for hours or get pissed and like…shake him…or her. Oh god, or like just…I don’t know…I don’t even want to say what I’m thinking out loud.”

“That’s grim,” Zane said, stroking Felix’s hair. “But I kind of think you’re just letting your intrusive thoughts win. Yes, our husbands are selfish, horny dicks…often. But they’re also crazy smart, disgustingly rational, and never lose their temper except for people who try to hurt the family.
